We appreciate everyone who attended the online November 2024 Caucus. It was a nice opportunity to get together, (re)introduce IPBES and ONET, present upcoming stakeholder opportunities, and taking part in the preparation of the Stakeholder Opening Statement at IPBES11.

A first draft of the Stakeholder Opening Statement based in the ideas collected is available for online comments in English, French, and Spanish. The deadline for online comments is 04 December 2024.

After that, the ONET Facilitation Team will incorporate the comments by 7 December, and finally finalized on Stakeholder Day on 9 December 2024 in Windhoek, Namibia, and online.

The ONET Opening Statement will be presented to the 147 IPBES members governments and observers during IPBES 11 Plenary session in Windhoek, Namibia and online, in December 2024.

This year’s Plenary will discuss some specific topics, for instance:

  • The Nexus Assessment
  • The Transformative Change Assessment
  • The scoping report for the Second Global Assessment
  • Engagement with IPCC
  • Building capacity, strengthening knowledge foundations and supporting policy
  • Improving the effectiveness of IPBES

Thanks to the previous ideas sent by ONET members, the chat box, and the breaking groups discussions, we were able to build a first draft from the ideas shared. We considered the previous ONET Opening Statements (check ONet's previous Opening Statements here), the specific topics that will be discussed, and suggestions such as the link between biodiversity and climate, the effective dissemination of IPBES products, and a call on all members to actively take their part in biodiversity conservation.
