Meet among ONet members at the November 2024 online Caucus:
- an introduction to IPBES for newcomers.
- an update for everyone.
- most importantly: we will start drafting our joint statement to the 147 IPBES members governments and observers. It will be delivered at the IPBES-11 Plenary session in Namibia and online, in December 2024.

What is a Stakeholder Opening Statement?
ONet and its sibling network IIFBES have the right to speak during an IPBES Plenary session's opening ceremony. One representative from each network reads out a statement: it may include stakeholders' observations, insights and requests for the Plenary; it often references topics that are especially relevant to that year's Plenary. For examples and inspiration, statements from previous years are available on ONet.
How is the statement prepared?
Stakeholders are invited to jointly craft this year's Stakeholder Opening Statement:
- At the November 2024 Caucus, we are collecting ideas and developing the structure.
- Afterwards, the ONet facilitation team will ask stakeholders to comment on a draft.
- At #IPBES11 Stakeholder Day on 9 December 2024, we will finalise the statement in Windhoek, Namibia, and online.
Join the Caucus event to ensure that your ideas are considered right from the start. At the facilitation team we are looking forward to seeing you there!
