Guide to IPBES plenary meetings for new observers – IPBES-7 edition
A group of volunteers from different stakeholder organisations engaged in the Open-Ended Network of IPBES Stakeholders (ONet) developed a guide explaining the necessary steps to become an accredited observer organisation to the plenary, provides tips on how to prepare for negotiations and explains how decisions are made at plenary meetings. The guide is based on the experience over stakeholders who participated in several IPBES plenary meetings and includes publicly available information provided by the IPBES secretariat. The first edition of the guide was published prior IPBES-4 and it was updated before IPBES-5 and again before IPBES-7. The development and distribution of the guide was kindly supported by WWF Germany.
Following questions are addressed in the guide:
- How to participate in IPBES plenary meetings?
- How to prepare for IPBES plenary meetings?
- How to engage with other observer organisations?
- How does a IPBES plenary meeting work?
- What are contact groups?
- How are decisions made in IPBES plenary sessions?
- What happens between IPBES plenary meetings?
- What are the IPBES bodies?
The guide is a living document and we are looking forward for your feedback!
