Organized by CABES Capacity Development Program - CCPD for professionals.

This course aims to contribute to the conservation of biodiversity and restoration of disturbed ecosystems in Africa, through the improvement of the capacities of professionals. The course will be held from August 14th - 15th 2024, from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm UTC by Prof. Dr. Mylor N. Shutcha and Dr. Paul K. Kazaba, University of Lubumbashi. Enrolment to the course is open to everybody and free of charge.

After the course the participants will be:

  • Aware of fundamental concepts related to nature-based solutions, biodiversity conservation and ecosystem restoration.
  • Aware of the international environment on biodiversity conservation and ecosystem restoration (International conventions and mechanisms - stressing on CBD, IPBES, the Kunming-Montreal Biodiversity Framework-KMBF, the 30x30 strategy) and its links with national strategies (uptake of international strategies at the national level, i.e., KMBF and NBSAPs)
  • Aware of the potential roles of IPBES and Science-Policy-Practice Interfaces (SPPI) for the conservation of biodiversity and restoration of distributed ecosystems in Africa.
  • Able to develop nature-based and contextualized biodiversity conservation and ecosystem restoration strategies
