Organised by the Transpath project in partnership with the European Business & Biodiversity Platform

26 April 2024, 11:00-12:00 CET

What is needed for the finance sector to meet the urgent short-term needs of nature finance, while simultaneously initiating longer-term transformations in the finance sector?

This webinar is part of an ongoing effort by the European Commission’s Horizon Europe programme to support the ‘Enabling Transformative Change’ pillar of the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030. It brings together academics, experts, and finance practitioners to discuss potential strategies for transforming finance, and jointly explore what is needed to amplify and sustain the change.

The Business and biodiversity assessment examines the Impact and Dependence of Business on Biodiversity and Nature’s Contributions to People. Finally, the Nexus assessment examines the interlinkages among biodiversity, water, food and health, including the relationship with finance.

About the organisers

The European Business & Biodiversity Platform

The EU Business & Biodiversity Platform provides a unique forum for dialogue and policy interface to discuss the links between business and biodiversity at EU level. Through the EU Business and Biodiversity Platform, businesses can learn about the importance of biodiversity and develop strategies to move towards a nature-positive future, benefiting both their operations and the planet. It is run by the European Commission.

The European Business Nature Commitment recognises the need to raise ambition for biodiversity and show their willingness to transform their businesses to help reverse nature loss and contribute to a nature-positive, net zero and equitable economy.

The Transpath Project

Transformative change focuses on the fundamental system-wide restructuring of the root causes to sustainability challenges, which are underpinned by complex social paradigms, values and behaviours. TRANSPATH sets out diverse mechanisms to support and enable the addressing of these issues by: drawing on diverse contexts, designing policy packages and other interventions, and considering the synergies and trade-offs of actions across multiple people and places.

The consortium of TRANSPATH comprises a mix of leading academics, science-policy experts, and early-career professionals in the global North and South, joining forces to engage with those who affect and are affected by trade regimes and associated ‘greening’ mechanisms.
