From 1997 to 2002, rehabilitating and releasing orangutans in the area was Friends of the National Parks Foundation's first wildlife conservation project. Since 2002, they have been rescuing and translocation wild orangutans to this safe and protected habitat. Within its holistic programme, the foundation has also been restoring native forest, and it has been promoting community development, agro-foresty and organic farming, environment education, and a volunteer programme.
